About this course

Overview

Why choose Huddersfield for this course?

  • Undertake a top-up degree using your professional qualification and registration to APEL the first two years of a degree programme.
  • We have over 15 years of experience delivering top-up degrees for health professionals and supporting practitioners to grow their careers.
  • Top up your nursing qualification to degree level and boost your career progression with flexible distance learning, which is delivered 100% online.

In 2010, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) made degree-level education a requirement for pre-registration nurses. Today, many employers expect nurses from Band 5 onwards to hold a degree as a minimum. By completing your Nursing Studies (Top-up) degree at Huddersfield, you can bring your qualification up to degree level and strengthen your opportunities for career progression.

This course was designed for qualified registered nurses who want to gain a career-focused post-registration degree. Developed in partnership with healthcare providers, it reflects the academic elements of the final year of an undergraduate degree. You’ll build confidence in evidence-based practice, research engagement and critical analysis, while exploring the vital role nurses play in patient safety and service improvement.

Healthcare is constantly evolving. Delivered - fully online, this flexible top-up degree is designed to fit around your professional commitments and prepare you for your next step. Using your existing qualifications, you’ll complete 120 credits – equivalent to the final year of a degree – to achieve your award.

Throughout the course, you’ll strengthen your academic and critical thinking skills to enhance your practice and lead meaningful change. You’ll explore leadership and management, develop your ability to influence service improvement, and deepen your understanding of safe, effective and complex care.

You’ll learn from research-active academics and experienced practitioners who bring real clinical insight into your studies. By connecting theory directly to your own practice, you’ll graduate with the confidence, knowledge and professional standing to progress your nursing career.
