Fashion Design with Marketing at Huddersfield combines creativity, technical skill, and industry insight to prepare you for a dynamic career in fashion. The course places strong emphasis on fashion design practice, while also allowing you to specialise in marketing, giving you the flexibility to explore a range of career pathways including fashion design, brand creation, merchandising, and marketing.
Throughout the course, you will develop your skills as a fashion designer through practical, studio-based learning. You will work through the full design process, from research, concept development, and trend exploration to fabric testing, pattern cutting, garment construction, and final presentation. You’ll be encouraged to experiment with materials and silhouettes, refine your technical abilities, and develop your own creative style. Alongside this, you will build a professional portfolio that reflects both your design identity and your understanding of the fashion industry.
In addition to design, you will learn key marketing skills such as brand development, fashion communication, and consumer engagement. This will help you understand how fashion products and collections are positioned, promoted, and sold, and how designers connect with audiences in a competitive global industry.
Teaching is delivered by experienced staff and supported by specialist technicians in our state-of-the-art Barbara Hepworth Building. You will have access to professional design studios, pattern cutting and garment construction workshops, CAD facilities, and digital printing equipment, providing you with the space and support needed to realise your creative ideas.
Live projects, competitions, and optional placements offer valuable industry experience and opportunities to build professional networks. By the end of the course, you will graduate with strong technical skills, industry knowledge, and a creative portfolio, ready for a career in fashion design, marketing, or a related creative field.
