This course helps social workers build the knowledge and skills needed to qualify as a Stage 1 Practice Educator, meeting the Practice Educator Professional Standards. It’s a practical step towards supporting and developing the next generation of social work students.

You’ll explore theories of adult learning and reflect on your own needs as a learner and supervisor. Together, we’ll look at different teaching approaches and how to design learning activities that help others grow in confidence and competence.

Our course also guides you through creating effective learning opportunities on placement. You’ll learn how to prepare, support and manage a successful placement in line with Social Work England’s requirements.

This short course is the first stage of your Practice Educator journey. You’ll need to complete this course before progressing to the Enhancing Practice Educator Skills short course. Completing both gives you the confidence and capability to independently support and assess social work students in practice.
