As a health or social care professional, you’ll regularly support people with a learning disability—often alongside additional needs such as autism. Our course is designed to strengthen your understanding, confidence and professional practice when working with people who have a learning disability.

You’ll develop a clear grasp of the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities that guide high-quality, person-centred care. Through real case studies and reflective activities, you’ll evaluate your current skills, explore best practice, and build the insight needed to make informed, ethical decisions.

By the end of the course, you’ll feel more confident applying key legislation, advocating for individuals’ rights, and delivering care that supports people with learning disabilities to live full and independent lives.

Who can apply?

Entry Requirements

The admission requirements for taught postgraduate courses shall normally be a good honours degree (or equivalent study at FHEQ level 6) of a recognised unviersity or comparable institution.

You must:

  • Be working in a Health or Social Care enivorment.
  • Have access to a a computer with a relaible internet connection.
  • Have the ability to access and use online study guidance and support.

If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent. How much will it cost?

Fees and Finance

£1,029 per 20 credit module

This is the tuition fee for 2026/27 entry. Tuition fees for 2027/28 will be published once the information becomes available.

This information is for Home students applying to study at the University of Huddersfield in the academic year 2026/27.

Modules credits can range from 15 to 60, dependent on the content of the module. Read more about total credits required for a range of degrees, to allow you to calculate the potential total cost.
