Overview
Why choose Huddersfield for this course?
- Complete your degree in just two years and be ready to apply for postgraduate teacher training, including a Primary PGCE.
- 100% of our graduates were in work or further study 15 months after finishing.
- This course also opens doors to roles in education policy, social care, mentoring, and more.
Huddersfield has a long‑standing reputation for developing confident, reflective educators, and this accelerated Primary Education Studies (Non‑QTS) BA(Hons) builds on that strength. Designed for people who want to begin their teaching journey quickly, this two‑year degree equips you with a critical understanding of primary and early years education, guided by lecturers who specialise in inclusive and critical pedagogy, social justice and children’s lived experiences.
You will explore how education can challenge inequality, how teachers can create meaningful, relational, and inclusive learning environments, ensuring all learners participate and thrive. Your placement in a primary school lets you put theory into practice, work alongside experienced staff and see how inclusive and transformative pedagogical approaches help create fairer and more supportive educational experiences.
Although this degree does not award Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), it is a powerful and purposeful route into teacher training. Graduates often progress onto PGCE courses, while others move into roles across education, early childhood settings, youth and community organisations, mentoring or children’s services. Throughout your studies, you will be supported to build confidence, shape your professional identity and prepare for a career committed to improving children’s lives.

Your Career
If you aspire to work with children and young people in a primary school setting, this course will help you develop the professional knowledge and skills you need. To gain qualified teacher status (QTS) to become a primary school teacher, you will need to complete a PGCE qualification after completing this accelerated degree. This course also equips you to consider non-teaching roles in education and other areas of the children's workforce.
100% of graduates from this subject who are in work and/or further study fifteen months after graduating.
* HESA Graduate Outcomes 22/23, UK domiciled graduates, other activities excluded.
I am planning on going straight on to a PGCE upon completion of my final year of my current degree. Meaning I will have completed both an undergraduate (a full BA honours degree) and postgraduate qualification (PGCE with QTS) in the same time period as some of my peers will have taken to complete a BA(Hons) degree with QTS. Following that, I plan on becoming a primary school teacher.
